Connector and component maker Bulgin is inspiring future engineers through a STEM programme for pupils at King’s Ely in Cambridgeshire.
Through the STEM On Track initiative, students are given a “kart in a box” to assemble over the academic year before testing and racing it, bringing classroom learning to life through hands-on engineering.
Bulgin is supporting the programme by funding key components, while its mechanical engineer Sean Dorling volunteers weekly with students. His guidance is helping participants understand how design and assembly decisions affect performance, while building confidence and practical skills.
Sean explains: “Engineering is something you learn best by doing, and this programme gives students a great opportunity to get hands-on experience, understand how things work, and see the outcomes of their decisions. It’s been really rewarding to coach them as they build their skills and confidence, and I hope programmes like this help to inspire students to follow practical engineering pathway”.
The initiative highlights how companies at the Cambridge Science Park are supporting STEM education and inspiring young people to explore future careers in engineering.
