Redcloud mobilises platform to keep businesses operational and give consumers access to essential supplies in fight against Covid-19

RedCloud is enabling additional capabilities to digitise trade between retailers and consumers in cash-heavy markets to minimise physical contact and reduce the spread of Coronavirus while ensuring those in need can access essential supplies. The spread of COVID-19 across the world is having a significant impact on the day-to-day lives of consumers and businesses, and in particular is rapidly changing the way that essential products like groceries, are sourced ,paid for , and delivered to consumers online and offline   RedCloud’s mission has always been to connect millions of offline consumers to the SME retailers that make up the backbone of the global economy to enable cardless and bankless consumers to acquire goods and services in a secure and low cost way.   Today that mission has become a critical imperative as a result of the unprecedented threat that represents not only the worst health crisis in the last three generations, but is also a catalyst to economic recession. With almost 1bn people in lockdown and restricted from shopping for critical supplies in store, and online, affecting the lives of hundreds of millions of consumers and businesses.   The RedCloud team is not new to acting in times of crisis, with the development team that were the visionaries and architects behind m-pesa, one of the most successful mobile payments and services platforms in history that took the most challenging and cash-driven environments in Kenya, and transformed it into a market that transacts over half its GDP through mobile payments, despite having one of the lowest bank account and digital payments penetrations in the world.   RedCloud has built the technology and payment stack to accelerate small and micro retailers to the digital economy by enabling businesses to turn their mobile into a store, both online and offline, and enabling consumers to instantly transact digitally, through mobile, without a bank card and cash in a completely contactless manner that allows for more hygienic transactions than cash or card-based alternatives.
