Park member Filtronic lands £47.3m SpaceX deal

Park member Filtronic has secured the largest contract in its history, signing a £47.3m ($62.5m) deal with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to support the Starlink satellite constellation.

The technology firm, a leading designer and manufacturer of advanced RF and microwave solutions, will supply next-generation Gallium Nitride (GaN) E-Band Solid State Power Amplifier (SSPA) technology for Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet service. The contract represents the first commercial order for Filtronic’s new E-Band GaN SSPA, a major leap forward in performance, efficiency and thermal management.

The technology will play a vital role in the ground segment of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) communications, where reliability and performance are critical. The products set a new industry benchmark for size, weight, power and cost at millimetre-wave frequencies.

Chief Executive Nat Edington described the agreement as a “landmark contract” that validates Filtronic’s engineering capability and technical leadership. Shipments are expected to begin in the 2026–27 financial year, providing a significant boost to revenues across multiple years.

Filtronic first partnered with SpaceX in April 2024 and announced a further £16.8m contract earlier this year, underlining a growing strategic relationship and positioning the company at the forefront of next-generation satellite communications.
