Park member OMED Health, part of Owlstone Medical, has expanded access to innovative at-home diagnostic testing after Welbeck Health Partners adopted its home-based Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) testing pathway across its network.
The partnership highlights how companies on the Park are developing technologies which make healthcare more accessible, combining digital diagnostics with specialist clinical expertise to improve patient care.
SIBO is a condition caused by an overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine that can lead to symptoms including bloating, abdominal pain and diarrhoea. It is recognised as a common cause of IBS-like symptoms, yet diagnosis is often delayed because testing has traditionally required specialist appointments.
Using OMED Health’s Breath Analyzer and companion app, patients can complete the test from home before their results are securely reviewed by an OMED gastroenterologist. The diagnosis is then returned to the referring clinician through an online portal, creating a streamlined pathway which improves access to testing while reducing pressure on healthcare professionals.
The rollout follows a successful three-month evaluation and is now being adopted across Welbeck’s network, helping more patients access specialist digestive health diagnostics without needing to attend a clinic.
Billy Boyle, co-founder and CEO of Owlstone Medical, said: “This partnership demonstrates how innovative home-based diagnostics, combined with specialist clinical expertise, can improve access to digestive healthcare and help bring faster diagnoses to patients.”
The OMED Health Breath Analyzer is UKCA marked, with the service delivered under Owlstone Medical’s Care Quality Commission registration.
