FlexEnable, the leader in the development and industrialisation of organic electronics for flexible displays and sensors, has won the FLEXI R&D Achievements Award for 2019.
The FLEXI Awards, which are made annually by FlexTech to recognise significant contributions to the flexible and printed electronics industry's development, were presented at the 18th Annual FLEX Conference in Monterey, California.
FlexEnable won the R&D Achievements Award for developing the world’s first industrially-proven, low cost flexible transistor technology platform, allowing full colour video-rate displays to be built on plastic. This technology is now entering mass production in China where it is being applied for the production of glass-free, conformable organic liquid crystal displays (OLCDs). These organic LCDs (OLCD) will change where and how displays are used in our lives, and transforming product design in ways unimaginable until now, across an $80Bn addressable market.
Chuck Milligan, CEO of FlexEnable said: “We are honoured to receive this prestigious FLEXI R&D Achievements award in recognition of FlexEnable’s ground-breaking plastic Organic LCD (OLCD) technology. The award comes at a very exciting time for the company as OLCD is entering mass production, bringing a breakthrough in product design freedom and new display applications.”
Mr Milligan added: “With FlexEnable’s efficient manufacturing approach to making organic transistors, OLCD is the lowest cost and most scalable flexible display technology available. OLCD has no compromise in optical performance compared to glass LCD, but offers all of the benefits of glass-free displays – conformable, unbreakable, ultrathin and light-weight. OLCD addresses the requirements for small and large area conformable and shapeable displays across segments including consumer electronics, smart home appliances, automotive displays and digital signage.”
About FlexEnable
FlexEnable has developed the world’s first flexible electronics technology platform that allows electronics made of organic materials to be manufactured on flexible plastic film, the thickness of a sheet of paper. Compatible with existing manufacturing lines, it is the key to truly flexible and cost effective electronics over large and small surfaces. The core applications of this technology are glass-free, flexible displays and sensors that enable game-changing products across a variety of industries including consumer electronics, automotive, digital signage, wearables, medical and security. FlexEnable’s customers include OEMs, component manufacturers and materials suppliers. The company offers a comprehensive range of services-based packages for its technology platform including: ProductEnable™, MaterialsEnable™ and FabEnable™.
