The past two years were dominated by a pandemic that put huge pressures on governments, health services, and everyone on the planet – and its toll will be with us for many years to come. But so too will the extraordinary results of the global scientific community coming together to address the pandemic and its impacts.
Over the last year, we have worked with the chemistry graphic design company Compound Interest to produce a series of graphics showing some of the many ways the chemical sciences helped tackle the pandemic. Although the pandemic is by no means over, we wrapped up our ChemVsCOVID timeline series. While we couldn’t hope to cover all the notable scientific moments from 2020–21, our timeline is a snapshot of not only the extraordinary science achieved under extraordinary circumstances – but the global collaborative efforts it took to achieve it.
