FlexEnable is a world leader in flexible electronics whose technology enables a wide range of applications in display, AR/VR optics, and other plastic liquid crystal systems.  The company provides materials, technology, and services to its growing list of customers, enabling new product paradigms and use cases for a range of applications across consumer electronics, automotive, and healthcare. 

The Role

FlexEnable is seeking a highly capable Optical Engineer with expertise in optical modelling and design, complemented by practical experience in the characterisation, root-cause analysis, and performance optimisation of optical components.

This is a predominantly hands-on laboratory role, complemented by optical modelling and simulation. The successful candidate will work at the intersection of design, test, and manufacturing, collaborating with a team of inquisitive, innovative, and high-calibre engineers to advance next-generation optical technologies. The ideal candidate will combine strong theoretical understanding with practical experimental capability, demonstrating both technical excellence and the drive to make a significant, high-impact contribution within a dynamic technology company.

The Candidate

Qualifications

  • BSc (or higher) in Physics, Mathematics, Optical Engineering or a related engineering discipline

Experience & Technical Expertise

  • Strong theoretical and practical understanding of optics
  • Deep knowledge of birefringence and polarisation optics
  • Experience with liquid crystal optics (highly desirable)
  • Proficiency in optical modelling and simulation tools such as Zemax, Lumerical, DIMOS, and TechWiz
  • Ability to independently design, set up, execute, and document optical experiments and investigations
  • Experience in optical characterisation and failure analysis of components
  • Programming capability (e.g. Python, MATLAB or similar) to support modelling, data analysis, and automation

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience working within cross-functional project teams and engaging with multiple stakeholders and customers
