Do you have a natural flair for writing that you would like to develop as part of an in-house team? Does it inspire you to think that a global non-profit organisation will be using your words to help make the world a better place? Has a typo or inconsistency ever managed to get past your eagle eyes?

If your answer is “yes” then this role could be for you! The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is looking for a junior copywriter to join our in-house Creative & Production team of designers, production support, multimedia experts and specialist copywriters.

With support from experienced writers, you will build your own experience by creating campaign copy to attract and motivate a wide variety of audiences, and by using your in-depth knowledge of our house style to keep our brand consistent and strong.

The Royal Society of Chemistry gives thousands of people the support and resources required to make vital advances in chemical knowledge. Through the various strands of our non-profit activities we develop, recognise and celebrate professional capabilities, and we bring people together to spark new ideas and new partnerships. We support teachers to inspire future generations of scientists, and we speak up to influence the people making decisions that affect us all.

This is an ideal starting role for someone looking to build a career in copywriting. You’ll need to be flexible, committed and willing to learn. You’ll need to enjoy working with and influencing a wide range of people. And (most importantly) your love of writing and language should sing out in everything you do.

If that sounds like you, then we’d love to hear from you.

Send us an application if:

  • you can write clear, persuasive, concise and grammatically correct copy to meet a brief and engage specific audience groups
  • you understand the importance of brand consistency, can apply this to your own work and encourage others to do the same
  • you can work well both independently and with a group of creative specialists to expand upon and champion concepts developed by the team
  • you can think about the difference tiny changes can make while keeping the big picture in mind
  • you have an excellent eye for detail and apply this consistently day to day

Scientific knowledge can be useful if you have this in your background, but your communication skills are what we need above all.

The Royal Society of Chemistry offers excellent benefits. The contractual base for this role is our Cambridge office, however we are entering a period of piloting hybrid working, and you may be able to work from a location other than this, as agreed with your line manager. Applicants should be aware that there is an expectation that employees will attend the offices as needed for their role, and that permanent working arrangements away from the office may not be agreed in the future.

If you are interested in this role, please apply before the end of the closing date.
