Facilities Manager

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) seeks a permanent full-time Facilities Manager to join us, based at our Cambridge Science Park office (free onsite parking and close to public transport).

 

The role is to support the Manager, Facilities and Building Operations in ensuring the smooth running of both Royal Society of Chemistry buildings in the UK. The postholder will actively manage and run the day to day operations of the Cambridge Office. They will work as part of a facilities team who are responsible for that function. The Cambridge site accommodates around 500 staff and various contractors.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • To ensure the efficient running of Thomas Graham House. This includes buildings, plant, equipment, servicing and maintenance together with central services in and out of the building e.g. reception, post room, cleaning and security.
  • Help create and maintain an efficient and effective environment within which colleagues can undertake their respective roles.
  • Manage reception and post room ensuring an efficient and effective service.
  • Provide management and support to the team ensuring they are performing effectively.
  • To be involved in overseeing buildings related Health and Safety requirements alongside the Health and Safety Co-ordinator and under the direction of the Manager, Facilities and Building Operations.
  • To oversee contractors in relation to the Cambridge office projects but also in terms of day to day maintenance and other service provision.
  • To manage the day to day implementation of any Capital Building Projects.
  • To ensure that the car park and building grounds are appropriately managed and maintained.
  • To undertake contractor and staff inductions.
  • To negotiate and tender key facilities contracts.
  • To manage and work within delegated budgets.
  • To actively participate in RSC Business Continuity plans.
  • To respond to Emergency situations.

 

We are looking for:

 

Essential:

 

  • Facilities/building manager experience with the ability to demonstrate knowledge relevant to the current role.
  • Experience in buildings related Health and Safety and the application thereof.
  • Motivated and enthusiastic team player.
  • Experience of managing people and performance.
  • Experience of managing long-term maintenance and building/refurbishment projects.
  • Experience of managing and being accountable for budgets.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and contractors.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Organisational and planning skills.

 

Desirable:

  • Possessing or working towards BIFM and/or IOSH qualifications would be desirable
