The Big AI Tech Debate
Starting in 75 days
16:00 - 19:45
Join the Cambridge Wireless Artificial Intelligence SIG as we debate the motion ‘This house believes that the positive impacts of AI will be outweighed by the negative impacts’ on Thursday, 6 February 2025 at The Bradfield Centre, Cambridge from 16:00 to 17:45, followed by networking with pizza and refreshments from 17:45 – 19:45.
Reading about AI can leave us wondering: will it solve pressing issues like disease detection and climate change, or will it bring new challenges like job loss and environmental impact? We'll explore both the opportunities and threats of an AI-enabled society and discuss whether the positive impacts will outweigh the negatives. Expect a nuanced discussion – and bring your perspective to the conversation!
This lively debate will be chaired by Julian Huppert, Director of the Intellectual Forum at Jesus College, the University of Cambridge, and previously a member of the Home Office Biometrics and Forensics Ethics Group, chairing the AI Ethics Working Group.
