Proposals for The Chisholm Trail, a mainly off-road foot and cycleway linking the north and south of the city, are now out for public consultation. This traffic-free route would link residential areas and big employment sites across the city by a path which closely follows the rail line.
The Trail would provide an off-road link from Ditton Meadows past the Leper Chapel to Coldham’s Common via a new underpass below Newmarket Road. Proposals also include paths close to the railway line near Cambridge Station making use of Mill Road bridge arches, with several opportunities to access the Trail in residential areas.
The route includes the proposed Abbey-Chesterton bridge, however, the bridge and the Trail are separate projects, subject to decisions by different authorities.
