Our Story

More than 50 years of impact

From farmland to frontier science

Cambridge Science Park was born out of a bold idea: that bringing business and academia together could transform the world.

For more than 50 years, Cambridge Science Park has put Cambridge at the heart of global innovation and science, inspired by the vision of Trinity College Cambridge’s former bursar, Sir John Bradfield. Founded in 1970 to bridge academia and industry, it was Europe’s original ‘Science Park’ and has grown into a beacon of discovery. Our tenants have treated illnesses, powered smartphones, advanced sustainable materials and created a ‘plastic’ coating made from pea protein.

Today, Cambridge Science Park remains the UK’s longest established, and one of its largest science parks. It is a place where around 170 companies and 7,000 innovators come together with a shared ambition: to develop technologies which improve lives and build a better future.

Trinity College, Cambridge
A Legacy of Innovation

Trinity College, Cambridge remains at the heart of the Park’s story. Its ongoing commitment ensures that the Science Park continues to grow, evolve and set the pace for innovation worldwide.

Through investment, vision and community stewardship, Trinity has created an environment where both start-ups and multinationals can flourish side by side – building on Cambridge’s reputation as one of the most innovative cities in the world.

A Bold Masterplan

Trinity is shaping a bold new vision for Cambridge Science Park. A vibrant, sustainable place which goes beyond buildings. The ambition is to create an open, welcoming ‘Park of Science’ where innovation, community and discovery come together. Designed for people as much as progress, it will attract world-leading businesses, inspire future scientists, and invite the wider city to learn, explore and spend time.
